DiDi Moto and Uber Moto are illegal in Mexico City; Laura Ballesteros revealed why you shouldn't ride "hugging" each other.

Laura Ballesteros , a representative from the Citizen Movement, revealed why you shouldn't ride "hugging" on DiDi Moto and Uber Moto, and why they are illegal in Mexico City .
Following the death of a DiDi Moto user in Mexico City on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, authorities such as the Ministry of Mobility ( Semovi ) will take legal and administrative action against the platforms that offer motorcycle transportation services.
This is because this service is illegal in the capital , so apps like Uber and DiDi are not authorized to transport users on motorcycles in accordance with the regulations of the Mexico City Mobility Law.
Laura Ballesteros explained why you shouldn't hug Uber Moto or DiDi Moto driver partners in light of the legal loophole in Mexico City.
When riding side-by-side on Uber Moto or DiDi Moto, riders stop being passengers and become co-pilots with their motorcycle-riding partners.
For the service to be considered "appropriate," companies would have to ensure that the motorcyclist partner and the user travel separately and comply with all safety protocols.
"There are no conditions for them to provide such a service. It's an illegal service. For several months, Semovi and the Mexico City government have implemented regulations preventing them from providing such a service."

In an interview with MVS Noticias, Representative Laura Ballesteros rejected and criticized the DiDi Moto and Uber Moto services one day after a 47-year-old female user died in an accident due to wearing an improper helmet.
The legislator emphasized the illegality of the service, which puts the population at risk, especially low-income people and young people who lack access to car rides.
Because it's illegal , companies like DiDi and Uber aren't required to provide data about their motorcycle services to the Mexico City government, so there's no certainty about how they operate or how many accidents they've recorded.
Semovi announced on Thursday, July 24, 2025, that it will take legal and administrative action against Uber Moto and DiDi Moto for offering illegal mobility services in Mexico City .
This isn't the first time DiDi Moto has faced a similar situation. In December 2024, another young woman suffered a motorcycle accident , and to date, the mobility company has not taken responsibility.
The 28-year-old victim received no medical attention from DiDi Moto and suffered a significant knee injury requiring surgery. Six months after his accident, neither DiDi nor the city authorities have offered him a solution.
The recent death of a woman has raised the issue at Semovi , an institution that will seek to stop motorcycle mobility services on platforms such as Uber and DiDi for operating illegally and in violation of the Mexico City Mobility Law Regulations.
